Something about Suriname

Suriname is a small Dutch speaking country on the northern coast of South America bordering Guyana on the west, French Guyana on the east and Brazil on the south.
Formerly a Dutch colony, Suriname became independent from Holland in 1975. Along with its official Dutch language (English is also widely understood Suriname has also inherited from its colonial past a city of beautiful wooden colonial buildings and a highly diversified population.
The majority of the country's inhabitants have settled in the coastal areas with the largest concentrations being in the capital city of Paramaribo and the city of Nw. Nickerie. In the tropical rainforest which covers approximately 80% of the country, several native Indian and Bushnegroe villages can be found.
This fascinating tropical rainforest together with the unique yet harmonious mix of race, culture an religion amongst the population, are the premier tourist attractions in the country.
Suriname has a wonderful tropical climate with an average daily temperature of about 27° Celsius. The weather changes from dry to rainy seasons 4 times each year with the heaviest rainfall being in the periods may-July and December-February.
Although showers can be quite heavy during the rainy seasons they usually don't last very long and no matter what the season, there is always lots of sunshine in Suriname!
